Orff Group Drumming Lesson for kids 7 and up! Offered at 1:30 and 3:15.
The Carnival of the Animals is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements
by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns.
The Carnival of the Animals
is supposed to be fun. Each of the suite's 14 movements introduces us
to a different animal or group of animals, with a small number of instruments
mimicking their voices or the way they move. Starting with the lion's roar and
slowing to reflect the elephant's bulk, Saint-Saens pokes fun at the music of his time.
The piece has become one of Saint-Saëns's best-known works.
The Outstanding Blair Chamber Orchestra will play the piece, accompanied by a simultaneously running video for young children linking the instruments and animals.
Member of Blair Bands and Orchestras will be on hand with their instruments so
kids can see them, learn about them, and can try them out.
We expect to have a
full compliment of band and orchestra instruments, as well as pianos. This is
something the National Symphony Orchestra does, but it costs way more and is all the way
downtown!
We will have several stations featuring:
Give your child a chance to show off their skills and encourage creativity and early learning!
The festival will feature face-painting, allowing your child to express their creativity in a fun and delightful manner! All materials are 100% safe and we will have trained volunteers on-hand for assistance.
Don't miss the chance to win a cupcake! The game begins when the music starts; children walk around in a circle as the music is playing. When the music stops, the children stop. A volunteer will call out a carnival image and the child standing on the corresponding image wins a cupcake!
The raffle will be called after each orchestra performance. Prizes may include:
We will be holding a bake sale throughout the event. Buy baked goods such as brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and more! All proceeds go towards funding Blair Music and help support events such as this one.
The festival will also feature the MBHS Marching Band showcase and two fifteen minute performances at 1:15 and 2:30. Make sure you catch them!
Montgomery Blair HS is located on 51 University Boulevard E, in Silver Spring, MD. There are two parking lots you can use: one is on University Blvd and the other is on Colesville Road. There may be testing during the day, so the University lot might get packed.
The Blair Band and Orchestra Patrons (or BBOPS) is the booster organization that supports Montgomery Blair High School's Instrumental Music program. This group is made up of parents of instrumental music students and their support is invaluable.
